The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) has launched its Internet banking in India but only for its non-resident Indian (NRI) customers. the bank ha cornered about 3,000 users since the project's soft launch on March 15, 2001.
HSBC has 1.8 million Net banking users worldwide and about 8,00,000 in the UK and 3,00,000 in HongKong.
"The percentage of Net banking customers is an attractive one over regular banking customers," said Subir Mehra, head of e-team, India Area Management Office. "Before launching the program we had to be sure that a robust system was in place in terms of software and security," said deputy chief executive officer, India, Chris Hothersall.
online @HSBC.com will provide services such as viewing balance and transaction histories, transfer of money between accounts, payment of credit card bills and ordering cheque books. Besides this, the user can also se the interest accrued to date and projected for the full financial year for savings and loan accounts and view the tax deducted in order to plan tax payments.
Besides, the online service will also make possible payments of electricity or mobile bills along with mobile alerts for every new transaction that occurs. It also will provide for application of and redemption of mutual funds.
"We are piloting our service to NRI customers because they have been identified as potential major users of the service. We expect to roll out the service to all our customers in India in the second half of 2001." added Hothersall. |
