Now, a resident
is not required to approach an office of RBI for drawal of exchange but he/she can
directly approch Authorised dealers viz. Banks which are authorised to deal in
foreign exchange,have been permitted to release foreign exchange for travel. Even firms or
persons holding full-fledged money-changer's licenses from Reserve bank have also been
delegated powers for release of exchange.
Basic Travel
Quota(BTQ) is the scheme wherein foreign exchange is issued to the residents who wish to
undertake foreign travel.Residents can buy upto US $3000 or its equivalent for undertaking
in a calender year one or more private visits to any country abroad.Foreign nationals
residing permanently in India only can avail this scheme.
