Mr. Desai is one Indian who made it big showing that we are not far behind others. He has done his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from M.S. University in India and M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley.
Desai began his professional career as a design engineer with Addressograph Multigraph Corporation in East Hanover, New Jersey. Then he worked as programmer analyst with Sperry Univac Corporation in Irnive, California from April 1978 to January 1980. He joined Sperry Univac from NCR Corporation in Dayton, Ohio where he was a design engineer and programmer analyst from October 1974 through April 1978.
H.K. Desai is now the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for QLogic Corporation and has the credibility of increasing the growth and earnings of the company. In a span of five years Desai has taken the company to heights and had led the I/O industry in innovative technology development, diversified into new markets, and driven additional growth through acquisitions.
Desai took over as President, CTO and interim CEO of the Company in August 1995. In January of 1996, he was appointed CEO and in May of 1999 he became Chairman of the Board. Desai originally joined QLogic in July 1990 as Director of Engineering and was promoted to vice president of VLSI engineering in November of 1992. In 1995, he accepted the position of vice president, Engineering (Systems Products) at Western Digital in Irvine, California before rejoining QLogic later that year.
He has been awarded with Patents #4,695,946 and #4,701,845. The American Electronics Association (AEA) presented Desai with an Executive of the Year Award in 1999. He was also awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2000. Desai has been recognized by the Orange County Business Journal as a member of the OC50 group for the past three years. He is a member of UCI's Chief Executive Roundtable, Technology Network, Project Tomorrow as well as a charter member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE). H.K. Desai is included in Enterprise Systems Magazine's "Power 100" CEO list (Aug, 2001)
