Ever
wondered about the implications of a takeover
before initiation? Although theoretical, here is
an answer. "My research program focuses on
the interaction between a firm capabilities and a
firm scope, with mergers and acquisitions being
the focal phenomenon. At the broadest level, this
research is aimed at understanding how the
capabilities and assets of the firm drive and
limit it's expansion activities. More specifically, I have tried to empirically examine:
- the determinants
of acquisition propensities in different
environments,
- the transfers
and linkages between acquiring and acquired
firms,
- between firms
and their markets, and
- the performance
implications of different acquisition
strategies.
Such questions have
been examined in the context of multi-business
firms (corporate scope) as well as multinational
firms (international or geographical scope). The
primary theoretical building blocks include
capabilities / evolutionary perspectives and the
theory of foreign direct investment, though I have
also at times used institutional and agency
arguments in some papers. Fundamentally, this
research is based on an assumption of interactive
feedback processes between internal resources and
capabilities of the firm and its market position,
which collectively determine its
performance," says Jaideep Anand. For he
should know. As an Assistant Professor, School of
Business Administration, University of Michigan,

predicament for some time.
