Jay
(Jerry) Rao was born on July 12, 1967 in Bangalore,
India. Her father is a retired Project Manager at
Parsons Corporation, a full service planning,
engineering and construction company. He is a Hall of
Fame Toastmaster and former Distinguished District
Governor. Her mother is an Honorary Member of the Beverly Woods East Garden Club. She is
active in Republican politics helping out at local
precincts.
She came
to US in the year 1970 and joined Charlotte
Mecklenburg Schools for elementary and high school, then
graduated from South Mecklenburg. She graduated from the
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a double
major BA degree in political science and international
relations.
Jerry
Rao worked in the political arena at the federal, state,
and local levels. On the national level, she worked for
Jim Miller, former director of the Office of Management
and Budgets and a member of President Ronald Reagan's
cabinet in Washington, DC.
Jerry
Rao is a member of the Republican Women’s Club of
Mecklenburg County, UNC Alumni Group of Charlotte,
Indian-American Friendship Council and the Gastonia
Jaycees. In her spare time, she enjoys reading,
landscaping, watching movies and practicing yoga. Jay
was President of the Toastmasters Club in Washington,
DC.
