Dr.
Kalidas Shetty hails from a remote village in Jayapura
near Chikmagalur district in Karnataka (India) is the
eldest son of Dr. Ninjoor Ramanna Shetty. Dr. Shetty did
his schooling at Bishop Cotton High School in Bangalore
and finished his PUC in MGM college, Udupi.
He then
pursued his Bachelors degree from the University of
Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore, where he secured the
first rank and won eight gold medals. Dr.Shetty moved to
U.S. in 1984 with a scholarship from Professor Don L.
Crawford’s Laboratory to pursue Master's in Science
and then a Ph.D. (1984-89) in Microbiology (Microbial
Metabolism) at the University of Idaho. Dr. Shetty had
his postdoctoral training at the National Institute of
Agro-Biological Research, Japan, and the University of
Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He also worked briefly as a
scientist in Japan and Canada.
Dr Shetty
is also an affiliate faculty with NASA Space Food
Technology Commercial Space Center at Iowa State
University, Breast Cancer Research Cluster, Bay State
Health System, Springfield, MA, Molecular and Cellular
Biology- UMASS, Plant Biology- UMASS and Environmental
Science- UMASS.
He holds
at least four patents and has been editor of several
reputed agricultural publications. Research in his
laboratory focuses on molecular physiology of secondary
metabolite synthesis in plants.

Dr Shetty
was Awarded 8 gold medals for academic excellence at the
University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore. He has
also received Science and Technology Post-doctoral
Fellowship Of Japan Government 1990-1991.
Dr.
Kalidas Shetty an NRI scientist is among five recipients
of the Jefferson Science Fellowship announced
by Secretary of State Colin Powell on wednesday 26th of
May 2004. Dr. Kalidas Shetty, associate professor of
food science at University of Massachusetts, Amherst was
feted by the State Department in Washington DC. |
