Lata
Krishnan born in Kerala moved to Kenya, came back to
Jamshedpur for a brief stint then left for London before
finally settling down in United States (California).
Lata did her Bachelor's degree in economic from London
School of Economic in the early 1980s. After completion
of her Bachelors she worked for five years as an accountant with the
London-based firms of Arthur Anderson and Hill Vellacott.
Lata has
also served as the CFO of Smart from September 1996. She
assumed the role of vice president of human resources
and administration. Previously, she has held corporate
accounting and finance positions at investment bank
Montgomery Securities.
Lata, a
chartered accountant by training is a member of the
Institute
of
Chartered Accountants
in
England
and
Wales
and tough chief financial officer. She is
the President of the American India Foundation and is
one of the Co-Founders of SMART Modular Technologies,
Inc., a publicly held company recognized as one of
Fortune Magazine’s 100 Fastest Growing Public
Companies, which was acquired by Solectron Corp in 1999.
The
merger of SmartModular and Solectron in the fall of 1999
has the distinction of being the largest transaction in
electronic manufacturing services in history. It was
valued at least $2 billion, according to the closing
stock of Solectron. Shah, Patel and Krishnan hold a
combined 35 percent of the newly formed company.
American
India Foundation is founded with the objective of
provide help towards social and economic change in
India. AIF has the vision of building India where all
people can gain access to education, healthcare, and
employment opportunities and where every Indian can
realize their full potential.
She is a
Board member of the San Jose Repertory Theater, Fellow
of the American Leadership Forum, Advisory Board member
for Narika (Shelter for Abused Women in the Asian
Community) and for the Indian Business &
Professional Women’s Association, Charter Member of
The Indus Entrepreneur (TIE) Silicon Valley Chapter, and
Advisor for the Global Philanthropy Forum. She has
been awarded the Asian Americans for Community
Involvement Community Star Award, AAMA Connect
Philanthropy Award, Woman of Vision Award, and Rotary
Citizen of the Year award.
Krishnan
loves to work with children too. She won the Citizen of
the Year award from the Rotary Club of Warm Springs for
her charitable work. |
