Dr. Prem Misir - Pro-Chancellor, University of Guyana

Dr. Prem Misir is Pro-Chancellor of University of Guyana. Dr. Misir was the Executive Director of the Government Information Agency, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Government of Guyana, and Chairman of the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation, Guyana. Dr. Misir was the Associate Public Health Epidemiologist at the Bureau of HIV Prevention, New York City Department of Health.

Dr. Prem Misir has been a Faculty member at Baruch College/City University of New York, Clinical Associate Professor at New York University, Assistant Professor at St. John's University, and Audrey Cohen College. Dr. Prem Misir was Research & Evaluation Coordinator - Graduate Medical Education, United Hospitals Medical Center/UMDNJ, and Assistant Professor & Primary Care Coordinator, Interfaith Medical Center/SUNYHSCB.


He was also a Research Fellow and a Lecturer at the University of Guyana. Prem Misir received his Ph.D. from the University of Hull, England, the M.Phil (Master of Philosophy) from the University of Surrey, England, the B.S.Sc. (Honors) from Queen's University of Belfast, U.K.

He is the author of this forthcoming book:

Cultural Identity & Creolization in National Unity: The Multiethnic Caribbean, University Press of America, A division of the Rowman and Littlefield Publishing Group.

Dr. Misir is also the author of several other books, including

Leader Behavior and the Compliance Structure In Education: A Sociological Study of Ideology and Social Change in Guyana (Medgar Evers College/CUNY, Caribbean Diaspora Press, 1998),

Workers' Participation in Management(New Delhi, India: Reliance Publishing House, 1995)

Work Commitment in Education: An International Perspective (New Delhi, India: Reliance Publishing House, 1995).

He co-edited The East Indian Diaspora, (New York: Asian American Center, Queens College/CUNY, 1993); his articles haveappeared in several journals, including AIDS Patient Care and STDs, Journal of Indo Caribbean Research, and TransAfrica Forum. Dr. Misir is currently completing a book manuscript on Marginalization in Guyana.
