Dr. Raj
Reddy is an outstanding person and is the Herbert A.
Simon University Professor of Computer Science and
Robotics in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. He
initially worked as an Assistant Professor at Stanford
in 1966 and later on joined the Carnegie Mellon as an
Associate Professor of Computer Science in 1969 and
became a Full Professor in 1973.
He then
became University Professor in 1984 and was named as the
Simon University Professor in 1992 and is the Director
of Carnegie Mellon West. Raj Reddy was the founding
Director of Robotics Institute from 1979 to 1991 and was
the Dean of School of Computer Science at Carnegie
Mellon University from 1991 to 1999.
Dr. Raj
Reddy's research interests include the study of
human-computer interaction and artificial intelligence.
His current research projects include spoken language
systems; invisible computing, gigabit networks;
universal digital libraries; and distance learning on
demand.
Raj Reddy
is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and
the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was
president of the American Association for Artificial
Intelligence from 1987 to 1989. To his credit Dr. Reddy
was awarded the Legion of Honor by President Mitterand
of France in 1984 and the ACM Turing Award in 1994. He
is a member and co-chair of the President's Information
Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC).
Not only
Dr. Reddy received awards and recognition abroad India
but also he was conferred with Padma Bhushan Award for
outstanding contributions to the field of computer
science and information technology. The award was given
by the then President of India K.R Narayanan, it is one
of the prestigious awards in India. |
