Passport for Minors

It is compulsory to have a separate passport for a minor. A number of foreign Diplomatic Missions are refusing to grant visas if minor's name is included in the parents passport.

 

Children of all ages must apply for a separate passport. However, those below 15 years of age will be given a 5 years validity passport or upto the age of 15 years. whichever is less.

 
Application for a Minor's Passport
  

An application for issue of a passport to minor should be made in Form No.1. The following passport particulars of both parents are required to be given in the application

(i) Passport No.
(ii) Date of issue
(iii) Place of issue
(iv) If parents have applied for a passport, file number & date be given.
 
Fees
 

The prescribed fee for issue of fresh passport for minor (below 15 years) or 5 years validity is Rs. 600.

  
Documents
 

(i)

Attested photocopies of passport, if any, of both the parents incorporating their present marital status. If neither of the parents has passport, then an affidavit of both parents. In case either of the parents hold a passport copy of the same along with an affidavit from the other parent.

(ii)

Affidavit by legal guardian in specimen given at Annexure V only if parents are not legal guardian.

(iii)

Affidavit by two responsible persons who know the legal guardian as minor in the specimen given at Annexure VI.
  
Consent of both the parents
 

The consent of both parents is necessary for issue of passport of minors (below 15 years). Hence both the parents are required to give their signatures under the declaration in column 19. in case where the parent(s) is/are resident outside India. such consent from the parent(s) in the form of a sworn affidavit duly attested by the India Mission Consulate abroad is acceptable.

   
Police Verification
  

At least one parent of the minor child must hold a valid Indian passport failing which passport to minor application shall be issued only after clear police report.

   
Deleting Names of Children
  

An application for deletion of names of children should be made in Form No. 2 (Application form for Miscellaneous Services on Indian Passports). The prescribed fee for deletion of  particular of children is Rs. 100. For details see Chapter 2.
