Companies can hire Indians for jobs in Iraq
The ban on Indian workers taking up job in Iraq has been lifted by the government. Now recruiting firms operating in Kuwait who are undertaking projects in Iraq can hire Indian workers.
According to Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verman, Only those Iraqi firms recognised by the Indian diplomatic mission there would be permitted to engage Indians directly.
The removal of restrictions on the movement of Indian workers to Iraq is expected to result in large-scale migration of skilled workers as Indian workers are preferred in the Middle East. The international fund could finance skill development activities in developing countries.
Sahib Singh told the conference if there was to be free movement of goods under the new economic order there should be simultaneous free movement of labour internationally. Staff recruited from developing countries would be able to handle the issues more effectively, he said. |
